What is a TC 656 Utah? ›

Cost to transfer a title

The title transfer fee in Utah is $6. In addition, whenever you buy a vehicle you must then pay the state both a use and sales tax, based on your purchase price and the city/county where the transaction took place.

You must fill out the Survivor Affidavit and have the document notarized. You may also need the Small Estate Affidavit. Once you have the forms notarized, bring them and the application for title transfer to the DMV. You will not be charged the sales and usage tax, but all other title and registration fees.

You may request a waiver online or by filing a written application with supporting documentation. You must show a good reason why the Tax Commission should waive or reduce any penalties or interest. You have a right to appeal if we deny your request.

You'll need a Utah Bill of Sale to make the transaction official. Utah does not have a sales tax exemption for family-to-family vehicle purchases. Sales tax is due on the vehicle sales between family members. The purchase price you claim on documents you provide when registering your vehicle must state the price you actually paid.

Probate is required if: the estate includes real property (land, house, condominium, mineral rights) of any value, and/or. the estate has assets (other than land, and not including cars) whose net worth is more than $100,000.

Is Utah a non-title holding state? ›

Most websites list Utah as a Title Theory state. In a Title State, the lender holds title to the property in the name of the borrower through a Deed of Trust. When the loan is completely paid off, the lender issues and records a Deed of Reconveyance in favor of the borrower who then has clear title to the property.
