    Bombay Sandwich Masala

This is one of the special powder which is used all over Mumbai street shops for their sandwiches. I came across this recipe from my favourite cookbook of Tarla dalal and i tried it immediately. It turned out so yummy and i loved it to the core.

I made several sandwiches using this powder and it turned out so yummy. I loved the tangy spicy taste which the powder gave to the sandwiches and it transformed the plain veg sandwich to a new level. Hope you will try this out, so you can try out my sandwich recipes which will be shared in the coming post..

It's at once utterly confusing and incredibly simple. Masala means mixture of spices. So, a mixture of warming spices roasted and then ground down to a fine powder is a Garam Masala. A mixture of spices that are slightly tart and perfect paired with chickpeas roasted and ground down is a Chana Masala.

Why is it called masala? ›

Borrowed from Hindustani مصالحہ (maṣālḥa, maṣāliḥa) / मसाला (masālā, “spice(s)”), from Classical Persian مصالح (masālih, “affairs, materials, spices”), plural of مصلحت (maslahat, “affair, policy, best thing to do”), both from Arabic, derived from صَلَحَ (ṣalaḥa, “be fit, competent, usable”).
